electrical safety checks header

Having an electrical safety check in your property is good practice, an inspection by ADH Electrical Services is designed to highlight defects on an electrical system, these may include; the lack of Earthing on conductive parts, exposed conductors or terminations, wear and tear, overloading of electrical circuits, broken covers, conduits and trunking as well as damage to cables. You may be requested to have a fixed wire test by a licensing authority, public bodies, insurance company, mortgage lender and/or others.

Tests are carried out to determine if an electrical installation is in a safe working condition and fit for continued use, we do this by;

  •  Visual inspection of circuits, control gear and protective devises
  •  Electrical testing of circuits to determine if there is an adequate earth
  •  Electrical testing to determine if there is any insulation breakdown
  •  Polarity testing of circuits and all other appropriate tests where required

The testing of an electrical installation follows BS7671:2001 and comprises of;

  • Earth Fault Loop Impedance
  • Operation of Residual Current Device
  • Ring Circuit Continuity
  • Insulation Resistance
  • Polarity
  • C.P.C Continuity
  • Prospective Fault Current
  • Functional Testing
  • Inspection and Test Schedules

What happens during a safety inspection?

ADH Electrical Services check the electrical installation against the requirements of BS7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (IEE Wiring Regulations) The period inspection will take into account all relevant circumstances including the following factors:

  • Adequacy of earthing and bonding
  • Type of wiring system and its condition e.g. cable quality and compliance
  • Suitability of the switches and controls e.g. consumer units (fuse box)
  • Changes in use of the premises which have led to, or might lead to, deficiencies in the installation.
  • Serviceability of equipment e.g. socket-outlets and light fittings
  • Presence of adequate identification and notices
  • Extent of any wear and tear, damage or other deterioration

During testing it should be expected to have short one off disruptions to the power supply for each lighting, sockets and utility circuits. ADH Electrical Services will complete such tests at times that minimise disruption to your home.

After the check

Following the safety check, recommendations or improvement requirements for the installation will be provided in a report, ADH Electrical Services will provide a fixed price quote for any remedial work required with no obligation.
