What is pat

Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the process of periodically testing your appliances, this helps to ensure they are safe and maintained for use within the correct environment. PAT is completed towards the IEE code of practice and HSE guidelines which involves a visual inspection to check the appliance casing and cable for wear and tear. Plugs are checked for damage, correct wiring and that the correct fuse is used. As long as the appliance has passed a visual inspection it will undergo a series of electrical tests using calibrated specialised equipment. A label will then be placed onto each appliance indicating the test result and next test due date, any item failing the tests will be easily identifiable and should not be used until repaired. A comprehensive certificate of each appliance will then be issued for your compliance records, we will also keep records on your behalf for future reference and duplicates if required.
